SSC CGL is a graduate level exam and is considered as one of the biggest government exams in India. CGL (Combined Graduate Level) is conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission) for the recruitment in Grade ‘B’ and Grade ‘C’ category posts in various ministries and departments of the Indian government. The exam is held in four stages, also known as ‘Tiers’. The first two exams are held online, while the latter two are conducted offline. The candidates need to qualify all four tiers for the final selection.

The exam is held annually, with nearly 15 lakh candidates appearing every year for this lucrative opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria

SSC CGL Post Educational Qualification
Assistant Audit Officer Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University.
OR
Desirable Qualification: CA/CS/MBA/Cost &Management Accountant/ Masters in Commerce/Masters in Business Studies
Statistical Investigator Grade – II Post Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized Universitywith minimum 60% in Mathematics in Class 12th
OR
Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with Statistics asone of the subjects in graduation
Compiler Posts Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized Universitywith Economics or Statistics or Mathematics ascompulsory or Elective Subject
All Other Posts Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from arecognized University or equivalent

Exam Pattern:

The exam is conducted in four tiers. Only the candidates who qualify Tier 1 are allowed to appear for Tier-2 and so on. The final selection depends on qualifying all the four tiers.

Tier 1:

Tier 2:

Tier II of this exam consists of 4 papers. The first two papers [Paper 1: Quantitative Abilities and Paper 2: English Language and Comprehension] are compulsory for all candidates. However, Paper 3 [Statistics] is conducted for the candidates who have qualified for the post of Junior Statistical Officer and Paper 4[General Studies: Finance and Economics] for the post of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

Tier 3:

This is a Pen and Paper based offline exam. The paper consists of descriptive questions based on essay/letter/application/precis writing which have to be completed in 60 mins and carries 100 marks. The candidates can attempt the exam either in Hindi or English

Tier 4:

This exam consists of a Data Entry Speed Test or Computer Proficiency Test, whichever is applicable as per the post applied by the candidate. This exam is qualifying in nature.
