IBPS PO (Probationary Officer)

Personnel Selection Services (PPS) was set up by the government of India in 1975 for recruiting probationary officers and clerks in public sector banks. PSS changed its name to Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) in 1984, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s mandate.

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducts IBPS PO CWE every year for the selection of candidates for the post of Probationary officer by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Board in various Public Sector Banks across the country. It is one of the most coveted bank jobs in India which provides a prominent career in the Indian Banking System. IBPS provides its services to various public sector banks, private sector banks,regional rural banks and foreign banks.

IBPS CWE-IX PO Prelims Exam 2019 will be conducted on 12th, 13th, 19th & 20th October 2019 while the IBPS PO Main Examination will be conducted on 30th November 2019, tentatively.



IBPS conducts IBPS PO exam in three stages:

1. Preliminary Exam

The IBPS PO preliminary exam consists of 3 sections, which should be completed within 1 hour. 20 minutes are allotted to each section. The exam is held in online mode, with 100 questions in total, of 100 marks.

Negative marking of 0.25 marks is also there.

2. Mains Exam

IBPS conducts online exam for mains. It consists of 5 sections in total which can be bifurcated as 4+1. Total marks for mains examination are 200+25 marks, with a total duration of 180+30 minutes. IBPS conducts a descriptive paper in mains examination of IBPS PO.

3. Interview

Candidates qualifying mains, are called for the Interview, which is of 100 marks. The minimum qualifying marks for the interview are 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates). The Interview is held for around 20 minutes where candidates are asked questions by the panel of bank officials.

The weight age of marks for mains and interview is in the ratio of 80:20 respectively.

Candidates are expected to qualify all three stages by securing a minimum cut off, as declared by the IBPS, in order to be recruited for the post of IBPS PO.
